S5E2-Edric-Valorn

Edric Crestrun
Much had happened in the last hour. Adonis had reappeared. The group captured. Quinys and Onys about to go at one another as Erys tries to intercede. Edric knew about none of it, barely a single bit of it had any proper context to him, and as for the events that were about to happen, he was going to miss them. Because he was on a horse, named Horse, who he had pulled out of his robe earlier. On this horse, besides himself, was his dwarven friend who hadn't been captured by goblins. Yet. Hopefully he would keep it that way, because he considered him a potentially good friend. "So, uh…what happened while I was out?"

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn was just happy to not be walking. He was a dwarf in armor with a warhammer strapped to his back. He wasn't saying he couldn't do it, just that his legs were… shorter. "Well, you seemed to have gotten the gist of it when you were attacked, right? Erys, Onys, Quinys and Rowan all passed out in front of me, and then I did as well, in that trap room. The next thing I know, every one of us is tied up and gagged, armorless and without weapon, locked up in a cell, except Quinys. This… sorcerer of sorts seem to know here. They have a history. He kept calling her his cricket." Valorn recalls Erys's wide eyes. He wasn't sure if she was excited by this man or terrified of him. Valorn wasn't sure he had much of an idea of the man yet. "He offered her a place with him, traveling together, if she killed us in our cell. Quinys looked as if she was going to eat some of the birthday cake that had been readied for her, but instead, well, she shot him in the knee with a crossbow. That's about when you showed up. Nasty business." Valorn scratched his eyebrows as he said the final two words, sighing.

Edric Crestrun

"Yeah, she's mentioned him before. Some kind of ghost of her past that's come back to haunt her" He kept Horse steady, as he reached down to pull his flask out of one of the saddlebags and taking a long drink before offering it back. "Asshole ran into me and blinded me, I'm ashamed to say. Didn't get away without me settin' him on fire a couple of times, I'll say that for myself." It stung a little, as his mind went through all the ways that he could have bested the man instead."Then Quinys grabbed me from behind and demanded I stop blastin' him. It was damn weird."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn takes the flask, grabs a quick nip, and talks as he screws the lid back on and hands it back. "I feel bad for the girl. I only know what it's like to lose a loved one, not be abused by one. Their relationship, if it can even still be called that, is clearly unhealthy, and I do truly hope she will be okay. Honestly, I hope they're doing okay right now. We kind of left them there." Valorn's eyes go a little wide, then he chuckles, only a little nervously. "I just realized us two guys left the four lasses to walk home. How chivalrous of us."

Edric Crestrun

He grinned, taking the flask back and dropping it into the saddle bag. "Yeah, guess we did. I wasn't up for dealin' with the dirty accusations Onys was levelin' at me. Or the dirty looks. I mean, hey, I'm sorry I fucked that whole plan up, I am. Wasn't expecting that room to be so dangerous, I guess, but I promise, I'll think one more step ahead on these things in the future." That had almost felt too easy, up until everyone passed out on him and Catbird died. I mean, it didn't bother Catbird none, but it bothered him sometimes. "Like whoever this guy is? I'm gonna find him, I guarantee it."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn thought back to the portable pit, and chuckled some more."You don't get to put the failures of the group on your back, Ed. In fact, it's very important that you do not do that. It was your idea, sure, but we all went along with it. We are accountable as a group. Don't rob me of my agency. I agreed with yer plan fer' heavensake!" Valorn, reverting to his old clan accent for a moment, took a second to spit. Nasty habit, but it just felt right riding on this horse. "I'm just glad we got out of it alive. I couldn't ask for a more situationally competent group. Well, for a bunch of children." Valorn grabbed Ed's shoulder a tad, squeezed it, and let go, laughing.

Edric Crestrun

Oddly enough, the gesture was kind of reassuring, as he smiled a little more naturally. "Yer right. It was a bad plan, but it was a bad plan y'all endorsed fully before we did it. We made it out without another near-death experience, which is how I'm ratin' our prowess these days." Not since the cave had anyone succumbed to their wounds, in fact they had only become more and more effective." How old are ya anyway, Val, if you don't mind my askin'?"

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn chuckles, making sure he doesn't screw up his own age. He always had to remember hers more than his own. "I am a ripe, beautiful 141. Middle-aged for a dwarf, I s'pose, but I'm still training. Well, for my new purpose. For Moradin's purpose." Valorn thinks back to his life over the past few years in a series of flashbacks. He's learned to shrug it off. "I can only hope we continue to find purpose in our group struggle."

Edric Crestrun

"Weird thinkin' I've only been on this planet for two decades, with ya dwarves and elves around. That's gotta be a struggle for ya, right? I mean even if they're almost a hundred, in terms of how they look and act, they ain't any older than me. Pretty sure the tiefling is actually a little younger than me, even." The town was coming up quickly, the two oblivious to what had just occured back at the manor.

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn thinks back to the women in the party. "Well, the elves are closer to me in age than you, but that is not true for the maturity. I don't particularly dislike anyone in the party, but it is definitely starting to feel a bit like, age-wise, I'm the fish out of water. I'm sure that will get better as we get going on. The paladins haven't even taken their oaths, right?" Valorn sighed. "It may be a doing, but we have a good group of characters."

Edric Crestrun

As they arrived in town, Edric hopped off Horse, and offered to help the dwarf down. "Hey, if it's any consolation, I trust ya. You've done a great job keepin' monsters off me, while I do my work, and you can take a hit better than anyone who don't turn into a god damn bear. When they get back, you wanna go get drunk?"

Valorn Aenethal
Valorn takes Edric's hand, getting off. "You think the bear takes hits better than me? How dare you!" Valorn chuckles heartily, a deep, bear laugh. "I'm the best tank this side of Luskan! If you say it loud, it becomes true, right?" He looks at the ground, and then looks back, up. "An' sure, I'll get drunk with ya, Edric. It's been a job well done today, even with all the hardships.
