S5E1-ErysCatbird

Erys Moongem

The plan made and the group returning to resting, Erys glanced around their small camp. Dagger had scouted the area, but it was really Catbird that had brought back the most valuable intel. The group would be able to avoid a major threat in the form of an owlbear as a result. The elves prepared, but Erys already felt the light of Sune roaring inside of her. And the fire was building ever stronger, she felt, with every passing moment. It was a wonderful sensation. She smiled, getting an idea, and sneaking over to Edric's sleeping form, and Catbird himself. "Hey," she started conspiratorially "no pressure, but would you like to talk with me back over there?" She points to the area which she had earlier reserved to meditate.

Catbird

Having been grooming himself for the last few minutes, Catbird glanced around to the others, before taking off into the air with a swoop of his eagle like wings, and flew off to the spot she had indicated. He had a grace to his movements that was unlike either a cat or a bird, a fusion that was uniquely his own as he danced across the night sky. Landing, he would wait for her as he perched upon a nearby tree limb.

Erys Moongem

Erys enjoyed watching the little creature launch into the air, but it was a different feeling enjoying something for being unique and interesting without really wanting to invite them into her bed. It was a novelty she suspected would not soon get old. She made her way over, careful not to rush and appear like she was chasing him nor to doddle and miss the opportunity by boring him. "So now that I'm sure you can understand everything we've been saying this whole time… I really want to thank you for all the help you've given us over the last tenday. You're always there, you're an incredible… hey, would you mind if I started calling you Scout? As a little nickname just between us?"

Catbird

He turned his head down at her, his face expressionless, or at the very least, possessing expression that no one would properly appreciate. "Scout? Scout scout scout scout, is that the name you would call me? I like it. It is a good name. Catbird is a good name too, very concise, I like things concise. You are not concise, but then to that matter Edric is not concise. Do you understand?" His manner of speech was odd to say the least, as was the lilting way he spoke. He truly was a magical creature.

Erys Moongem

Erys smiles really big, almost embarrassed at the sensation of having a familiar agree to a nickname she'd chosen. "I do. I'm not… usually very concise at all, but… but I could try? When we talk? Would you like that?" Without waiting for an answer, Erys seemed to think for a moment, eyebrows furrowed, and then she spoke again. "Erys is my name. My parents gave it to me. I pick a new one soon."

Catbird

"Yes, I am aware, you choose a real name, not your young name. I have met elves, mostly dead elves. I am dead often, I talk to them while I'm dead, usually very boring, so I chase the rats and mice who are dead while I am dead." He swooped down from the tree, landing onto her shoulder. "You are hopefully not dead soon, you do not come back so easily. Edric would be upset, and then I would be upset because Edric is upset. I do not like to be upset."

Erys Moongem

When he landed on her shoulder, she undid her wrist strap and pulled her glove away from her hand, then moved her hand about halfway up, to indicate her intent, but asked out loud all the same. "May I touch you?"

Catbird

"Yes you may, I like it when Edric does so, it feels good on my fur when he does so. You two legs like it too, do you not? You like the fur and you want to pet it." His back arched up in response as she did, and he let out a purr, interrupting his speech. "You speak of a good job I have done, Edric says the same. I never understand. I do not die, I do what I am asked because I do not die, and I enjoy existing and without Edric I do not exist. I would not have as much fun if I did not exist."

Erys Moongem

She moves her hand up to him, running her fingers in the gentle little strokes that she assumed would feel nice for a cat, and therefore… also… she thought it made sense? She was careful to avoid his wings, though, just in case they were overly sensitive. It made sense. She thought. "Scout not really dying means Scout can save us. We're very grateful. We didn't understand back at the Cavemouth. We thought we had lost you. We were very sad. But Edric made fun of us. And then you were back. We were very happy. What is the most fun thing you do?"

Catbird

"Edric would have found that funny, yes." He continued purring, rubbing up against her hand as he looked at her with an almost unnerving focus. "I find it funny as well, but also I am glad. Only Edric has cared before. Now others care, and that is good." As she asked her question, he shifted a bit. "What is fun to me? Same thing that is fun to you, the thing you did with Edric, but with cats. Not like me, they're not smart and don't talk and don't fly, but I still like them, and they like me."

Erys Moongem

Erys was almost taken aback at first, almost legitimately shocked, but then she started laughing – gently, so as to not disturb him. "Oh my goodness, you share a telepathic bond." She nods in understanding. "So, in a way, you… you sort of know everything that happened that night?"

Catbird

He nodded his head in a mimickry of the gesture he had seen many times before. "I see what he sees, and he sees what I see, and he knows what I think and I know what he thinks. He is strange, he thinks you and your name and your face more since last night, before he did not think of you more he thought of the other red headed elf more. He is a strange human, are all humans so strange? I only know one human, and it is him, Edric."

Erys Moongem

Erys blushes a little, all the intimacy of a confidant without any of the boundaries, but magic was magic, she supposed. Fucking wizards. That's what she gets. "All humans are very strange. But a lot of them are really great in bed. Not like me, they're not smart and barely talk and don't do things right, but I still like them, and they like me. Ivaric…" she started thinking she'd have to explain, but of course, Scout had technically seen her naked. So. "He's not bad. Especially for a first-timer. I enjoyed our time together a lot."

Catbird

"So did he. He tries not to think about it but he still thinks about it even when he's trying not to think about it." Taking off into the air, he landed back onto another tree branch, his eyes tracking something intently as he continued to speak. "He is very smart. He is also very very very very very angry, all the time, but he tries not to think about that even harder than he tries not to think about you and you being naked while he is naked. I do not understand why, but I do not understand much of who Edric is."

Erys Moongem

Erys feels a little disappointed to watch him go, but watches him all the same. "I think I'm getting a better idea. But that's a little surprising to me, since you share that bond. Shouldn't you have a detailed knowledge of him, who he is, what he loves, what his motivations are? Those of us who get married would love to have a bond like that."

Catbird

It looks like he's about to take off, but suddenly he dives into a nearby bush, and after a short struggle, pulls out a small mouse that he has killed quickly. Unlike regular cats, he did not play with his prey, he only killed when he was hungry. However, he was also not rude, and he would wait to eat the mouse until he was no longer being spoken to. "I see it all, but I do not understand it all. It makes little sense to me. I do not know why his father matters so much to him, I have no father because I was created when Edric was lonely and make me exist all at once like this. Since I was not born, I have no father, but if I did have a father it would be Edric, and if Edric didn't want me I would not exist at all. His father did not want him but yet he exists, is that why he is so angry?"

Erys Moongem

Erys looks over to the sleeping Ivaric just a ways over there and.. nods again. "Yeah. That would make a lot of sense. My parents… we call them Avara and Atara – different ways of saying mother in our native language – sometimes I call them the Matrons – they sort of kicked me out after I broke up a couple they were trying to get together. They weren't meant for each other and I proved it. But it embarrassed the House. So I was told to leave. But it's not like the Matrons didn't want me. They loved me dearly for almost a century. What more can a girl ask for?" She shrugs. "You don't have to wait on my account, if you are. I don't mind. Good catch, Scout."

Catbird

"Then I will go and eat this mouse, I am hungry and it smells very good to eat." Picking the mouse up, he almost takes off to leave, but stops and turns back for a moment. "Something else. He looks at her, your sister, Onys. He has almost as much anger for her as he has for his father but it's not about her. It's about those who hurt him and made him lonely and made him make me, so he would not be lonely. He is angry every time he looks at her but he does not want to be because she is your sister and you love her and he does not want to be angry at someone you love. Okay bye I'm going to eat this now." As abruptly as he had begun this entire event, Catbird took off into the air with his prize, disappearing presumably to go about the gruesome work of eating his fresh kill.

Erys Moongem

Erys watches him fly off, then walks back over towards the center of camp towards Ivaric. As she walks, she replaces her glove and straps it back on, then sits next to Ivaric, close enough to watch, but not to disturb. 'You think of me naked a lot, do you?' She grins at his sleeping form
