Rowan

Rowan was sitting on the floor of the tavern. She had been talking to the young boy Pip about how he'd played in the streets with her when she was a bear, but his attention had gone back to his toys. He had a small wooden horse he was pretending to gallop around him. She just watched him silently, smiling at the oblivious fun he was having. However something was different this time than when she had played with him last. She had a feeling inside of her that she didn't recognize and could not name. She sat there idly pondering it when she saw Erys approach her. She had been speaking to the group, but Rowan hadn't been listening. She felt the mysterious feeling well up inside her like a fire when the elf came towards her.

Erys Moongem

Erys pulled yet another key from her purse, maneuvered it into her palm, and then held it out to the druid for her to take. Uncharacteristically, her face seemed tense and uneasy, burdened with the evening's multiple concerns. "…Hey, I went ahead and got everybody their own room for the night." She took in the druid's surroundings. "I know I asked earlier, but I want to be sure you weren't putting on a front to save face – you're not injured, right? You're okay?"

Rowan

Rowan looks up at the elf's outstretched hand. Without meeting her gaze, she takes the key. "No, I am not injured." Her voice comes out louder and angrier than she expects, dripping with a venom that she is not used to. Sheepishly, she looks back down at Pip. He had been startled by the volume of her voice, but smiles at her and goes back to playing. She is silent for a moment longer before speaking again, much quieter this time. "It still hurts, you know. I change back and this body is fine, but it doesn't mean I don't feel the arrows piercing me or the knives slashing at me."

Erys Moongem

Erys nods, understanding. "It's harder for me to tell that you're injured, when you're in one of those forms, too. Thinking about it afterwards, I couldn't understand what had scared you so much when you were an elk. As a bear, well…" She smiles at the bittersweet memory of Rowan's bear form sliding through grease to the amusement of several children. "You can't talk in those forms, either? Right? But can you still understand us?"

Rowan

Rowan calms a little, the fire inside her dims but does not extinguish. "I still understand you, but I cannot speak. My mind is still my own, my thoughts are still my own, but it is like the body of the animal is my body." She touches her shoulder where one of the skeletons had pierced her. She could still feel the slicing of her skin and the sting of exposed flesh as the blade ripped through her. But of course there was no wound there, her skin was smooth and unblemished. It had been the wolf's shoulder, the wolf's skin, the wolf's flesh.

Erys Moongem

Erys frowns in concern, bunching up her eyebrows. "We should try to work out some signals. Some way of communicating. I have some limited ability to shield you better, too… but I'm not sure. The fact that you can take the form of…three different animals so far? It's been an incredible boon to the rest of us. Imagine how poorly that encounter with the wight in the crypts would have gone. And you held the line for us down there while I got Ilarno out." She remembered the scars on his body and his position as Adonis' furniture and inwardly fumed anew.

Rowan

Rowan looks up at her, meeting her eyes this time. She means to thank her for the compliment, but instead says "I wondered if any of you had noticed." Once again her words surprise her, she really wasn't used to talking so much. She doesn't shy away from them this time and does not look away. "I know that I am inexperienced with people and that there is something happening here between you all that I do not understand, but I am here to save Gundren and even with all my strength, I cannot do it alone. I will protect you all with my teeth and my claws, but I need to know that you are here for the same reasons."

Erys Moongem

Erys kneeled down to get closer and add sincerity to her words. "In our own ways," she glanced for just a moment over to her sister finally entering the bedroom she'd gotten for her, "we've spent a week together trying to get a simple job done. Things have gotten crazy, you've discovered your powers. Tomorrow is my oathday, and… things aren't going as planned, but the Gods have clearly brought us all together for a reason. Like I said yesterday, you're safest with us. And we're definitely safer with you. But I still expect to have to earn your trust."
