Edric Crestrun

Edric was a mess. He had spent hours since Erys had talked to him just…staring at things. The ceiling. Out the window. The floor, at one point. All that while, he was trying to figure out where it all went wrong. How could he have failed everyone so completely? How could he have abandoned Quinys, not seen the confrontation coming? It wracked his brain endlessly, the mental math and rethinking leaving him almost burnt out. But there was quiet, now. Quiet that even penetrated through the door, hopefully to the other side. Frazzled, looking a mess, he got up from off the floor where he had been sitting recently and headed to the door, before giving a hateful glance at that robe of his. If it wasn't worth his own weight in gold and more, he'd fucking burn it. The door opened, as he stepped outside, yawning as he decided he was going to head downstairs and resume his earlier drinking. Maybe if he was out of his mind drunk, it would all make sense.

Quinys Forgedawn

"Are you fucking…" Quin sighs as a piece of armor slips through her fingers, hitting the floor with a dull thud. She looks at it, thinking for a moment of picking it up, then deciding that it was easier just to drop it and figure out where the room was and come back for it.

Edric Crestrun

As the silence broke, he looked towards tthe source of the sound with the intent being annoyance, but as he saw the source of it through the murk of the poorly lit hallway, he felt the pain from before resurge again. Yet, seeing her again right now might be what he needed. "Uh…hey Quin." He had acted so utterly naive and ignorant before…no, he hadn't known anything of what happened. He didn't know why things went the way they did. Now he could try and make up for it. "You busy?"

Quinys Forgedawn

"Just trying to get from A to B, ya know?" Quin shrugs, looking at the key and then at the surrounding doors, trying to match the numbers. She pauses for a moment when she glances at Edric, giving him a small smile. "Do you need anything? You look a bit rough." Concern flashes over her face as she takes him in, then understanding as she thinks about all that had happened. "Did you get much studying done?"

Edric Crestrun

He shrugged. The spells didn't take much time, he got one done while he was sulking. "Eh…I'm alright. I'm uh…I'm good. I got one of 'em memorized, but the other's a little outta my depth right now." Her smile was warmth to a man freezing to death, as he returned it weakly. Suddenly, he remembered something. "Oh shit…I was supposed to help ya work on yer cantrips. You got time?" In truth, he wanted her company. She made him feel far better just talking to him right now, and having an excuse to do so only helped make it easier.

Quinys Forgedawn

"Yeah, I just…let me drop off my armor and change really quick. I promise, no nightgowns this time." She smiles a bit wider, pulling her hair down and sighing. "It's been a long day and I really could use something a bit less restrictive, then I will be right over and we can begin."

Edric Crestrun

Smiling, he left the door to his room open as he headed inside and started cleaning up the papers strewn randomly all across the room, cleaning up the armoire he tried to punch and failed, and used a bit of prestidigitation to clean up his discheveled appearance. He thought to himself, maybe today wont end in total tragedy. Maybe he can make this work.

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin made quick work of getting her things into her room and setting things out, still being her rather particular self about it however. She had soon changed into a simple, short sleeved, light green dress; and found herself heading into Edric's room. "Okay, what first? Are we reading tonight?"

Edric Crestrun

As she arrived, he closed the door with his trademark grin on his face, as if he hadn't spent the last few hours alternating between sulking, crying, and beating himself up. "Nah, no books. We're gonna see if you can use that cantrip I showed ya. You've been thinkin' on it since last night, right?" It was a simple matter. Show the cantrip, and they'll teach themselves. Of course, it would take many more weeks before she managed to actually do anything close to the true magic behind it. "I want you to think about the candles extinguishin', and then I want you to think that the fires are already out. Then, they need to be back on again. In yer head, that is."

Quinys Forgedawn

"Okay, I can do that, this is totally easy." Quin looked stressed, but tried to play it off. She shook her hands, rocked her head from side to side, and basically stalled for a minute or two. "Okay, so," She lifted her hands and licked her lips before she looked at the candles and took a deep breath. A small white hand flashed for a moment or two before it formed and snuffed the candle with two fingers. Her concentration stumbled for a moment as she tried to figure out how to light the candle. After a second or two she grew frustrated and smacked the air, the hand form smacking into the candle and sending it against the wall and cracking into pieces. "Oh dear…"

Edric Crestrun

Edric was, for lack of a better word, stunned. He definitely did not use that spell yesterday, and yet, instead she uses one that he was never able to truly get the hang of. "…Quin, how in the hell did ya just do that? That ain't what I showed you yesterday!" His voice was a mix of excited and shocked, and he ran over to inspect the candle as he looked it over carefully, making sure there were no trick wires or mirrors or SOMETHING that would make this make sense. This was supposed to take weeks, and she did it in…a day. "That's…that's some incredible potential, Quin."

Quinys Forgedawn

"I couldn't understand the one you were showing me…and I read about this one one time. Did I do it right?" She chewed her lip a bit and looked at her hands, then ran them through her hair. This was what she needed, something less emotional and more mental.

Edric Crestrun

He felt a little overwhelmed, but at the same time, he was honestly happy for her. It was incredible progress. Please don't let her be a fucking sorcerer. "Ya did it better than right. I've never seen anyone master a cantrip that fast. Well, I guess that means we can go right to some spellwork, which, y'know, is the real excitin' stuff." Grabbing one of his books, he brought it over and pointed out a particular page. "It's a spell for changin' your appearance. Let ya be taller, shorter, all sorts of things. Good for someone sneaky like you."

Quinys Forgedawn

"What did I do? Are there words, or…?" Quin looked the page over and smiled, reading the lines and shaking her head a bit again. So first she…and then…alright, let's do this. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, then grumbled and opened them again. "I don't think I…" She was looking him, almost, in the eye. When did, how did, she was either taller or he was shorter and he wasn't just doing a spell to make himself shorter…or was he? "Did I do this, or you?"

Edric Crestrun

The look on his face was a bit more…stricken. How? How could she be doing this? Not even a sorcerer can absorb a spell from a book that quickly, and yet here she was, over a foot taller, having now shown mastery of a true spell. A spell like that could have taken him YEARS. "I…Quin, yer amazing. Just…amazing. I've never seen anythin' like that before." He tossed the book back to the table before turning to face her again, only now noticing how close they were now that she had become temporarily taller. He was utterly impressed…almost enough to forget the day that had preceeded this. "Before we do anythin' else…I wanted to apologize to ya. I heard what happened back at the manor. I'm sorry I wasn't there."

Quinys Forgedawn

"It's not your fault, you did the smart thing." Quin dropped her concentration and went back to normal, rubbing her head and looking at the floor. "I guess it was time for a reminder of how quickly everything could go wrong. Thank you for letting him go."

Edric Crestrun

While Erys had told him otherwise, both Quin and Val telling him he didn't screw up so badly helped. Now it was on to the other elephant in the room. "It's alright, I was doin' it for all the wrong reasons anyway. Can't let my anger get ahead of me. So…I'm guessin' he's still in yer heart?" He still assumed that Erys was right, and he had been an abusive ex. It really put a damper on his own growing feelings, but he'd get past it. "I mean, you two had been lovers for some time, right?"

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin began to speak, then closed her eyes and sighed. "Okay, let me be blunt. I didn't sleep with Adonis, that's creepy, and he was less than a perfect person, but I was a child. Not every parent is perfect." She shook her head, but tried not to show anger. It wasn't his fault that he thought these things, but it was getting old.

Edric Crestrun

That…was a relief, he thought. Erys had gotten him mixed up, he was right the first time! Sitting down onto his bed, he laughed. "Oh…wow, I really had that one wrong. That woulda been creepy, yeah, sorry about that." He was grinning again, as he felt a lot of weight lift off him. He was still sore about being beaten, but now, now he wasn't a romantic rival. He was just a rival, and no rival would withstand him in time. "We could talk all night about imperfect parents, Quin. At least he stuck around, I guess? Mine left before I was born, and stayed far away when he learned he'd sired a bastard child on my mom."

Quinys Forgedawn

"Well, that's part of it." She paused for a moment before taking the locket out and opening it. She looked at it for a long time before offering it to him. "Those are my parents, I mean, my father and mother. I knew that Adonis wasn't shy about pointing out he wasn't my father, but I only had feelings before I saw their pictures again. I couldn't remember what they looked like. And now I do…and I also know they're dead. Hell of a day."

Edric Crestrun

Standing up, he walked back over and took a look at the locket carefully, holding it with the same care he had given Rowan's books. "Look like nice folks. I'm uh…sorry to hear that. That…couldn't have been easy to learn." He realized for a moment that she probably was holding in a lot more grief than she was showing. He'd noticed it before in their time together, the way she hid her feelings behind an unmistakable mask. As he handed back the locket, he moved to put his arms around her, embracing her as he hugged her close. He wasn't entirely sure this was appropriate, but he didn't care. Sometimes you needed a hug.

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin was surprised, but loved hugs and returned his. She felt comfortable in this simple embrace, and relaxed for a moment. "I don't think I've had this confusing of a day in years, and it's nice to have something to do that's not drinking and someone pretty cool to do it with." She stepped back and put the locket on, slipping it into her dress and looking over his desk. "Can I barrow some books for while you sleep tonight? So I can keep practicing?"

Edric Crestrun

As she pulled away, he felt a bit of regret, but brushed it off for now. "Yeah, go right on ahead. Take all but my personal grimories, need those for myself. Plus my handwritin' is just bad, real bad." He tried to play it off with humor, as he picked out a few choice books and headed towards the door. "Y'know Quin…you're special. Don't ever think otherwise."

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin turned a light pink, holding books to her chest and looking at the floor as they walked. He was being weird again, but it wasn't bad weird…just weirdly nice. "That's because you write too quickly. I mean, when my writing is worst is when I'm rushing, or when I'm trying to make it hard to read."

Edric Crestrun

He laughed at that. It was fun, this was fun, but at the same time something else inside him wanted more. Opening the door to the hallway, he handed her the rest of the books, which seemed rather light for their size. "I write just fine, as long as I can read it, it don't matter. Just means if anyone steals it, they're shit out of luck." Time was quickly growing short for something, anything to happen…and so he decided to do something potentially very stupid and definitely very impulsive. As soon as he had handed the books off, he closed the distance and, thanks to the very spell she cast, kissed her on her soft lips as he closed his eyes, hoping only to open them to something better.

Erys Moongem

Erys emerged from her bedroom finally dressed and ready to get some dinner, and then have what would undoubtedly be an intense heart-to-heart with her beloved sister. As she opened the door, she froze, her heart sinking with dread. 'That motherfucker.' Her eyes grew wide but she pulled back inside her room, listening, trying not to be noticed. Hoping. Some kind of sign he wasn't taking advantage of her. Something. Anything. Or she'd bury him.

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin felt her cheeks burn red as she realized what was happening. She pulled away after a moment and looked up at Edric, a hand on her lips, her other gripping the books as if they were a life ring. She turned away, then faced him again, and then stepped back. "Um, t-thank you." She walked into her room and closed the door behind her, dropping her books as her breathing hitched a few times before she crumpled against the door and began to cry.

Edric Crestrun

At the other end of things, Edric was left somewhat speechless. You idiot. You stupid, stupid idiot moron. What the hell were you thinking. Without another word, he stepped back into his room, closed the door, and back into the dark his mind went, adding another calamity to a growing list that he would spend hours mulling…and soon come to an answer that he would be able to try to live with, damn the consequences.

Erys Moongem

Erys seethed with rage. She’d let Dagger out of her sight all of a half hour, and not only had he gone and made things worse, he’d mirrored Dagger’s mentor taking advantage of her. She fumed. She paced. She had to prioritize the way this had to be done. She had to talk to Onys. She had to beat the shit out of Edric. But she had to comfort Dagger. Now. She had to make sure Dagger knew no one had any right to her without her explicit, direct wish. It was no coincidence that this was all happening the night of her Oathday. She slipped her belt around her dress, clipped on her dagger, and stormed down the hallway. She knocked, as gently as possible, whispering, “Dagger? It’s Erys.”

Quinys Forgedawn

This was her life, for all of eternity, and she had chosen it. Quin stood and wiped some of the various fluids off her face before opening the door and clearing her throat. "Is something wrong? So you need my help, is there an emergency?" Her eyes were puffy and her throat hurt, making her voice scratchy, but she was standing and functioning so that's a plus.

Erys Moongem

"Yes." Erys said, simply, matter-of-factly, looking at Dagger's beautiful face marred by what he'd done to her. "I saw what happened. He should have known better. I'm sorry this has happened. Is there anything I can do for you?"

Quinys Forgedawn

"What? No, I…Edric…I'm dealing with a lot right now and that was unexpected. I shot Adonis, found out my parents are dead, and had my first kiss all within twelve hours and I just can't right now. I'm sorry. I just…I can't." Quin rubbed her face to distract from the feeling that she may start crying again at any moment. "Today's just been really rough and I need a good cry, I know you've felt this way, we all have, and I just need darkness and maybe a bath in a few hours."

Erys Moongem

Erys nods firmly. "You don't have to do anything, Dagger. Taking care of yourself is very important. Would you like another hug before I let you off the hook?" 'No one touches you again without your blessing, Dagger.'

Quinys Forgedawn

"Sure, hugs are the best." Quin wraps her arms around Erys and squeezes a bit, feeling secure in her choice more and more as the moments passed. He was her family, but now she had a new family…one that wouldn't lock her out when she misbehaved, or cane her if they found her during hiding games. "Thank you."

Erys Moongem

Erys clutches her tightly, making sure she understood that she was safe so long as they were together. "No, Dagger. Thank you." She lets go, being very careful not to let a scrap of her fury show on her face, and takes the step back out of her room. "Goodnight."
