Erys Moongem

Finally preparing for bed, Erys fully allowed herself to have a moment of intense longing… and then tried to let it go. If the Goddess saw fit that she go without, she would go without. Encouragement, perhaps, to focus on her studies, or…. voices, from the wall? Happy voices. She climbed up on her bed, fancy dress and all, and pressed her ear to the wall. She definitely heard…. Edric… and….there it was, Dagger's voice, clear as day. An excited outcry, the clear sound of movement, and then, "I'm sorry, I'm just, this is amazing." Erys pulled her ear away from the wall and felt her smile widen. It was a great, great comfort to know, that at least someone was getting some action. And they were so cute together, too! She gave them their privacy, brushing her hair and trying not to listen to the sounds coming from the other side of the wall at all. "Truelove," She prayed. "I know you're sensing the doubts in my heart, I know that's why you're testing me. But I swear to you, I will conquer this test, and any others you ever set before me. I am yours eternal, you know that." Then the sound of the Edric's door opening, a conversation inviting Dagger to feel free to drop in whenever, and the gorgeous rogue simply saying goodnight in response. Had it not gone well? Oh, no. Oh no oh no oh no. Edric, you idiot. She moved to her own door and listened, waiting for the sound of Dagger's door closing. And then being locked. And then the unmistakeable sound of a crowbar sliding against wood to really lock the fucking thing. Wow, Edric. Wow. "Truelove, give me strength." She whispered to herself, quietly opening her door, sneaking all of three steps, and then tapping thrice on Edric's door.

Edric Crestrun

Edric, who had only had a moment of peace to try and sit down and get his work done again, didn't even get his quill in his hand before another interruption broke his concentration. He was tired, damn it! He's the only one who sleeps, let him get some already. Sighing, he headed to the door as he opened it to see Erys this time, which he didn't entirely expect. "Uh…hey. What do you need?" He remembered how she dipped out earlier from their drinking, wondering if she was alright.

Erys Moongem

Erys presses a finger to her lips in a shushing gesture, her free hand moving to guide him inside and then carefully close the door shut behind her. She turns again to face him, her hair a whirl and her eyes bright. "Alright, alright, alright…" She began, in a quick, hushed tone of voice, bridging the distance between them. "You favor Dagger. Fine. Fine. That's beautiful. Wonderful. She's gorgeous. Lady knows I've been trying to figure out how to hit it all day. How'd you blow it?"

Edric Crestrun

Being guided into his own room by her shushing insistence, he looked a bit bewildered. As she went on, he looked less confused, and more amused, a smile dawning on his face as he let her go on. "Hah…I'm guessing you only half eavesdropped, because no one was trying to get lucky in here, Erys. Quinys came by to talk about learnin' some of the arcane arts, and that's all." He didn't think bringing up the rest of what happened would be productive. "It's really been bugging you, hasn't it? Me turnin' you down back in the woods, I mean."

Erys Moongem

Erys narrows her eyes at him, unbelieving at first. Dagger had sounded so happy, they'd been so jovial, surely… surely somebody… surely she was at least trying to… "I—-" She falters, having been ready to give him the talking-to of his life, because, really, how hard is it to woo a fucking elf? Then again. The thought showed on her face. Apparently not as easy as one might think. "I… I'm sorry for eavesdropping, but…" She looks away, blushing. It amused him? Magic lessons. Figures. "I thought I overheard something, yeah." She's caught red-handed on the other point, and isn't quite sure how to respond at first. "I mean, yeah, a little bit. But I'm not having any luck with anyone, even. I don't get turned down, Edric. Not usually. And you were very sweet about it—-" she interjects, "Don't get me wrong. That was one of the nicest, most thoughtful rejections I've ever gotten." That image of Hadrin again, on the floor, bleeding from where Atara's fist had slammed into his face. "But yeah."

Edric Crestrun

He shrugged, taking a seat as he looked towards her. "Eh, it's fine. I half expected you to anyway, and the walls ain't exactly thick." He thought about the conversation he just had with Quinys, and how Erys had referred to him 'favoring' her…did he? Yeah, it was nothing but a friendly chat about magic and other things, but was he enjoying it beyond that? She did show up in that nightgown…did she 'favor' him possibly? "Anyway, don't take it personally. You're the first in a long long line of women I've had to turn down, few of which who were as beautiful as yerself." He set aside his work again as he put his feet up on the desk, yawning loudly. He wasn't going to sleep, was he.

Erys Moongem

Erys' mood noticeably perked at the remark about her appearance, letting herself take the compliment and show a smile. Once again… polite and courteous. Frankly, he reminded her of Ona. Ona at Court, obviously, not the Ona who ran beside her hurling beams of frost magic and greatswords at miscreants. "I thank you, of course. You can't force an intimate connection. But I'm right on the other side of this wall if you ch—-" She considered, a moment. Arcane Arts? Edric expected her to believe that Dagger, the rogue of the bunch, the one elf outside of her family Erys had admired in years, had come in here… for lessons. Lessons. The sound of Dagger's excited outcry haunting Erys' daily increasing ache for attention, she stopped herself and made clear eye contact. "It's just a drought, that's all. My Lady tests my loyalty. It comes with putting Her first."

Edric Crestrun

"I'm sure the second we hit a major city, you'll be drownin' in suitors. This place is a one horse town, and that one horse is particularly boring and dull." His own wondering made him think that maybe, just maybe, Erys might be able to help him with his own conundrum. "So uh, let's just say I did have someone I was interested in. Let's also say I have almost no experience with courtship, romancin', or treatin' ladies the way they expect and deserve. Do ya think you could help me with that, theoretically and all?"

Erys Moongem

Erys nods through the assertion that surely, surely, there's bound to be some action soon…. but then her eyes go wide. "No experience? Yes, I can teach you. I can teach you all kinds of things. I can teach you a wide array of skills and methods and demonstrate to you exactly how a nice, strong, interesting young human like yourself can almost definitely get himself some action. Or…. or maybe you're looking for something a little more long term, which I don't have much experience with, but still, but still… I would love to. There's just one problem, darling." She moves closer – not so close that she'd be disrespecting the twice-instated space between them, but close, with her Common taking on a decidedly more flirty tone. "Any instruction I gave you would have to be hands-on, unless you…" She giggles. "Have another volunteer."

Edric Crestrun
Her reaction surprised the young mage enough that he almost fell out of his chair, righting himself just in time as she drew in close and regained his composure. "Gods, did no one ever teach you subtlety? If I wanted to just get her in bed, I'm sure I could, but I'm not interested in that kinda thing. Besides, I don't think she is either, in fact I think trying to make that happen would just screw things up in the long term. As for practical lessons, I did want to keep this in the realm of the theoretical if at all possible." Just a little flustered, he shifted his feet on the table a bit. "Point is, yer a woman, she's a woman, I figured ya might have some insight."

Erys Moongem

Erys takes a step back and turns to the side, laughing to herself. "Of course, of course… so theoretically speaking, every woman you'll ever encounter is a unique, beautiful gift from the Gods, as is every second you get to spend with her. Reverence gets you a certain distance, but that's not all. You have to prove that you're worth something. In a manner of speaking, you have to let them come to you." She looked upwards, remembering fondly one past partner in particular… Mina…. Little Mina…. and an enormous grin spreads across her face. "Failing that, you have to make it clear to her that you're interested." She motions with her hand from her chest towards Edric. "Once the offer's on the table – no matter what the offer's for – it's there, and she can take you up on it or disregard you at her leisure. That makes us feel safe, but it also allows us a sense of control. You?" She gestures to all the work he's been putting off. "You're deeply invested in your studies. But it makes you powerful. Now me, I like that. But a lot of women might find it intimidating. Do you have a specific woman in mind?" As if she hadn't sussed it out for herself.

Edric Crestrun

"I'm not stupid enough to believe you're stupid enough not to know, Erys. But now it's…complicated. Now I'm teaching her magic, which means there's a certain student/mentor relationship that needs to be respected. Plus…every one of my portents say that I'm going to need to rely on you guys to survive the coming months, and if I screw things up with her…" He sighed, his fatigue starting to get to him just as much as his doubts. "…it'll make things awkward, you know?"

Erys Moongem

"WELL!" Erys throws her hands up in the air. "Leave it to you to be interested in the one fucking broad for miles…." She stopped herself. That was the frustration talking. She didn't have to stop pursuing Dagger simply because Edric had feelings. That was a ridiculous notion. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. That wasn't… fair of me. Let me start over. All I can tell you about her now is that she's obviously not a fan of my usual, dare I say, somewhat direct approach. I'm not sure. You've known her longer than I have, clearly there's something there… but I'm detecting a self-worth thing with her and… maybe something more. Maybe something that might be too much for you if she's really going to be your…." Erys swallows hard, she can hardly even believe it. "First partner." She feels a little bit of blush splash across her face at the thought of them together, an adorable coupling to be sure, oh Lady… her momentary fantasy is interrupted by the flash of a memory. Her hand on Valorn's back, her shield ahead of him, whispering in Dwarven that she had him. She smiled, even though the blush hadn't completely faded from her face, and looked again directly at Edric. "Teach her. Use it as an excuse to learn about her. And when she trusts you enough for you to make a move, I'll be right behind you." She holds out her hand, as if to make a deal. "I've got you."

Edric Crestrun

There was a moment as he looked at her hand, having listened to her proposal, that he thought back to the first time he met Quinys. Back at the Apple, where she was nothing but another face in the crowd, before she approached Gundren. He remembered feeling suspicious, catching her outside the tavern and confronting her about trying to rip off his friend. She rebuked him. It was the first time he'd felt any kind of fire in him that didn't have to do with his bastard of a father. "So, you're not gonna try to sabotage me, right? I'm also smart enough to know that you want to sleep with her too, ain't I gonna be the fly in that ointment?" Honestly, his interest in Quinys was romantic before it was lustful, not that he hadn't imagined that as well, but at the same time he knew he cared more about her as the fascinating person she was, rather than who she'd be in bed with him. Nonetheless, he shook her hand. "Then again, I suppose you're just interested in a one night stand, and if she is too, that's her choice. I uh…appreciate this, by the way."

Erys Moongem

At the touch of their hands, Erys can't help but shudder and let out a controlled exhalation. She does her best to hide the reaction, but her body betrays her just enough to be perceptible. "Frankly, I think a night in bed with me would greatly improve your…. long-term chances… both of you, honestly. But that's maybe just a bit egotistical of me. I wouldn't say what I do are one-night things, either… they're… they're…" She frowns in frustration, letting go of Edric's hand with some obvious disappointment, unable to describe in words what lovemaking means to her and her faith. "We can share what we know about her and I'll absolutely not sabotage you. But ultimately, Lady Firehair’s will is absolute. Dagger's heart is her own, and the both of us must respect that."

Edric Crestrun

He grins, as he retracted his own hand and turned back to his papers, grabbing his quill as he began to write something down. "Oh, I've known her longer than you, I fully understand how willful she is. As for your suggestion, I have to wonder…you're not curious why I've turned you down?" He thought back to the first time he'd been tempted, truly. A young woman who had patched him up after one of his first engagements out at sea had offered to join him in his bunk that night to 'reward him for his bravery'. Even at 16, he could only think about how he'd have to leave this port and sure enough, he would never meet her again in all his travels. This was the most tempted he'd been since then, for certain. "And what do you mean by sayin' it's not about a one night stand? What would you call it then?"

Erys Moongem

Erys lowers her eyes and smiles in feigned bashfulness, a lower-level flirty gesture, still, but muted. "Likewise, your heart is your own. Your reasons are your own. It might make me feel less rejected if you told me, if you're considering doing that, but I would never presume to ask. And what if it's a point I can argue? Are you prepared for that?" She teased, finally looking around at the room he'd selected, mostly just so she could stop staring at him. "Sune loves me. Watches over me, all my power or abilities or whatever you call them originate and conclude with her and her love. I'm something of a Heartwarder, myself, honestly, not exactly, obviously, but maybe someday? I'm all about fostering love and connections, but I will never love anyone or anything more than I love the Goddess herself, as she expects and deserves. So, when I make love… it's not a meaningless dalliance between children playing at the rites of marriage, or whatever 'one night stand' even means… it's a deeply personal, deeply spiritual, faithful experience. Two hearts, two bodies, as one forever in that moment, bound by Sune herself. Sometimes more than two hearts, I confess."

Edric Crestrun

"I suppose not, and I doubt it's one that will stand up to your scrutiny or reasoning. As for your connection to Sune…that's actually pretty interestin'. I've been thinkin' a lot about that kind of stuff lately, even had a chat with Val about it. You really feel that connection, don't ya? When I talked to him, he said he'd never heard the voice of Moradin, but knew he was servin' his will…does Sune speak to ya when you're makin' love to someone?" More and more, spending time around so many whose powers were derived from the divine, he considered his own place in such a world. He thought about his own interaction with a god, albeit a dark and capricious one. "I know where my power comes from, and I know exactly how to take the Weave and make it my own…but I ain't got the kind of feelin' of purpose that the rest of y'all got. You all use your power to further the motivations of your gods and their ideals, I guess I just…follow my own selfish whims."

Erys Moongem

"Val… Valorn? The dwarf? He's wonderful." She closed her eyes a moment just to remember the feel of his hand on her shoulder. "As for my relationship with my Goddess…. I feel Her everywhere, in everything, and everyone. Mostly. But it's not like communicating with you, say, with these words and this potential for misunderstanding, or even…. say, my coming on too strongly. Her presence in my heart… it's not the same. It's…. wonderful. Exhilarating. And every now and then, She really makes Herself felt. But usually, I'm just Her vessel. I just make my lovers know what their hearts and bodies are capable of, and I fill them with Her light. But to actually answer your question instead of getting distracted boasting about my Truelove…." she mocks herself wryly, "It's a deeply personal relationship." Erys nods at the explanation of Edric's own power and how it worked – it was quite impressive, in its way. "What sort of things do you seek, then? With your own selfish whims?"

Edric Crestrun

He looked thoughtful for a moment, as if he wasn't sure he really thought his regular answer was the whole story anymore. "It used to be to prove to everyone how great I was, how wrong they were about the whoreson mage who they kicked down again and again. Then I thought it was about findin' my dad and showin' him what a fuck up he was for abandoning me and mom. Then, it was gettin' powerful enough to find the thing that killed 'em and kill it right back. " He sighed, thinking about how little progress he'd made on that since he met Gundren, how if he hadn't followed that portent, he wouldn't even be here. "Right now, though…that all feels real selfish, compared to the rest of ya. I used to think people like you were fools, but now I think I'm the foolish one." He stood up, finished with what he was writing, placing it into a book on flowers and setting it onto the shelf. "Do you have any idea what it might mean…if a God tried to talk to ya? Like, face to face."

Erys Moongem

Erys listens with mounting excitement to Edric's answer, openly fascinated by the details of the tale. She tried her best to remember… whoreson, really? Something or other killed his father… revenge made sense. A hunger for revenge was the very definition of selfish, in Erys' view, but that didn't mean it was necessarily a bad thing. Revenge wasn't the accomplishment of an achivement, it was the conclusion of affairs. But then he said that last line. Face to face with a God. Face to face with Sune. Her eyes glazed a little as she considered, the Goddess' own embrace… own kiss… own voice in her ears… Erys' cheeks flushed almost instantly. "M-mean? What it might…. mean?" She shook the image from her head, best she could anyway, it still lingering. "Coming face to face with a God means you're destined for Greatness. Good, Bad, hard to say. But Greatness." It finally occurs to her exactly why he would ask such a question. "…Have you?"

Edric Crestrun

Something about her answer actually seemed to unnerved him, greatly, causing him to pace about the room a bit before he delivered his answer. "Y-yeah. Once. A long time ago. It was when I got swept off a ship, along with a few crewmates. I thought I was gonna drown, and I think I actually did, but uh…then I saw her. And I heard her. It was only after I was fished out of the water and was lookin' at the sharkbit bodies of my friends that I realized it was her." He didn't want to say her name again. He already felt strange mentioning it to Valorn, like he was tempting fate by putting it to speech. "I saw her face, her hair, and I heard her voice, but didn't understand it in the least. I still don't know why she saved me and killed them, I don't even know why I'm alive today because of that. But it happened, and it still scares the shit outta me to think about." Still, despite that fear, he felt…a strange elation too, much like he had when he survived. He was destined for greatness.. Good or Bad.

Erys Moongem

Erys saw his concern and gave him back a smile of compassion. She put on her best impression of her sister, rising to her full height and holding her shoulders back, looking every bit the Lady Kiirnodel that it might be said she once was. "The Gods work incomprehensibly. It is ours to do what they expect of us, but… it is not always ours to know. Perhaps you are meant to be Her personal champion, some day. Perhaps your crewmates wronged her, but you did not, and so you had no knowledge of the plot and were spared. Perhaps you aren't meant to know until the time is right. Perhaps it was some Grand Machination that led you to this very room, here, with me." She bridged the gap again, but this time the gesture was comforting, not flirtatious. "You will find the answers you seek, Edric. I promise you that. And when you do, I further promise you, whether you eventually let me take you to bed or not, that you may consider me a friend, and that I will answer your call to help you understand what those answers mean."

Edric Crestrun

He smiled, nodding as he headed towards the door. "You make her sound like something to be understood. I've always just feared her and given her the respect she demands. If the Bitch Queen wants a champion, I suppose I wouldn't be able to really resist. But hopefully that day won't ever come. I don't know if I have it in me to serve the ocean itself. Anyway as little sleep as I think I'll get tonight, I should still try to get some of it. It's been…really nice talkin' to you, Erys. Between you and Quin, I feel like I can trust you guys to have my back, Y'know?"

Erys Moongem

Bitch Queen, eh? Erys smiles to herself, remembering that in addition to the weight of her upcoming Oathtaking, she would reach her centennial soon. Bitchqueen. Queenbitch. Interesting. She took the cue to get out of his hair, but took a parting glance on her way out. "Yeah, sorry, it's hard to remember that you actually need to do that. Goodnight, Edric. So long as we're together, I do have your back, don't ever doubt that. Goodnight."
