Quinys Forgedawn

When we last left our adventurers Edric, Valorn, Erys, and Quinys were all sitting at the bar. Edric, Valorn, and Quinys were all day drinking, dark beers, and Quin was thinking about moving to something more alcoholic. She waved to the barkeep and painted at a bottle, then tossed a coin on the table.

Erys Moongem

Erys shuffled in her seat, trying to get comfortable. It was going to be a long couple of hours.

Edric Crestrun

Edric seemed in pretty good spirits, in contrast to the two who had joined them, starting on his first pint of strong dwarven ale as he looked between the two. Time to break some ice, he figured. "So uh…Valorn filled me in on what I missed. You two gonna be alright? I ain't worried about Val, he's a trooper, but it sounded pretty rough in there."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn recalled Quinys, emotionally shooting this mysterious sorcerer in the knee with a crossbow. It had been an odd day, to say the least. Valorn was mostly here to nurse his ale and listen, but on this particular topic he was very curious to hear what else had happened.

Quinys Forgedawn

"Depends…I mean, isn't 'alright' relative?" Quin swallows the smaller glass of dark liquid and grimaces, before asking for another and taking a sip from the thick beer Edric had gotten her. "Also, apparently, my birthday. So yay me."

Erys Moongem

Erys offers half a smile and another half of a shrug, before opening her mouth to say 'Happy Birthday, Dagger' and then immediately thinking better of it. "My Oathday is tomorrow. Or was supposed to be. So, I don't know, honestly."

Edric Crestrun

"I saw the cake, like, all over Rowan. What's with that girl and jumpin' into things while transformed into other things? I swear, I survive all this and get the notion to open a tavern, I'm gonna name it the Greased Bear." He could sense the awkwardness between them, but he was clueless at the moment. But it was drinking time, not a time to press people for answers. "So uh…what's an Oathday like anyway?"

Erys Moongem

"You'll see tomorrow. Maybe."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn takes note of Erys's proposed Oathday. Something else is suddenly on his mind. This job was supposed to be done by now. He'd make it through. "Happy Birthday Quinys!" Valorn says with a smile. He hadn't really celebrated any birthdays in quite a while. These circumstances were… quite a bit different than he remembered, though. "And hey, not everyone gets a cake, right lass?"

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin shrugged and sighed, looking into her beer as if it held all the answers. What did she do now? What had she done? Every time she started to get things together everything got fucked and it was usually her fault. "I love cake."

Erys Moongem

Erys leans forward just enough so that she can see Edric clearly, and starts watching him carefully, but tries not to be too obvious about it.

Edric Crestrun

Edric's just enjoying his drink and his time with his friends, but even he can tell something's very wrong here. The attitude was totally different than just a day ago at Yannock's table. "How about that guy you found, Erys…what was his name again?"

Erys Moongem

"Ilarno. He's recovered, I guess."

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin swallowed the second glass of darker liquid and laughed a bit, then rubbed her head. This was perfect, just perfect, and the warmth of the alcohol almost made her feel better. She could feel the burning numbness start to eat at some of the rawer edges.

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn is generally an excellent observer, but he can't let this awkward pause go to rest. He sees Quinys, enjoying her drink, taking a load off, and figures this is the perfect time to ask. "So, if you don't mind me asking, Quinys, who was he? Normally I wouldn't pry into a lover's spat, but, this man had a very serious proposition for you to kill us and walk away. I think…" Valorn is hoping he's not overstepping his bounds but also, uh, he thinks he gets to know this! "I think you might owe us a bit of an explanation? Why did this putrid man come after you so desperately?"

Erys Moongem

Erys' face shows a look of deep concern as she moves to interject, but not quite sure if it's her place. Not quite sure if any of this is her place.

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin pauses, mid drink, and sets the mug down. She wipes her mouth with her hand and chuckles again, rethinking some of the things that Adonis had said. "Lover? Is that what you all think? I mean, I guess I understand, it fits in a weird way. And if I had gone with him who knows, he has a way of getting in my mind and bringing out things I didn't know were there."

Erys Moongem

Erys' eyes immediately dart up to Edric at Dagger's words, then to Valorn. Three quick steps and she was next to Edric, quietly whispering something to him.

Edric Crestrun

Edric was about to say something, before he turned to Erys and nodded, getting up from his seat and heading towards the stairs without another word, but a glance towards Quinys.

[Erys and Edric]

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn keeps an eye on the paladin and wizard, and is puzzled as they leave. He turns his attention back to Quinys. "If I am in any way incorrect about your relation to that… man, please, by all means, clarify. I just have this horrid feeling that we will be seeing him again. He was really obsessed to find you, you know? I would like to know more, if that's alright." Valorn takes a light swig of his beer as he finishes his words.

Quinys Forgedawn

"Fuck it, guess the truth is better than what you're all thinking anyway. He's my…" Quin tried to figure out a word that could encompass everything that was between herself and Adonis and came up short. "He took care of me, and taught me how to survive."

Valorn Aenethal

As he hears the words, care, taught, survive, only one thing goes through Valorn's mind. Memories of his late wife. He encounters a bit of dissonance as he becomes a bit internally sullen, but outwardly supportive. He knows what that is like, to have someone like that. "Ah. He's an…" Valorn thinks a second. He has the phrase. "He's an old friend. You have a great history, and it speaks volumes, both good and bad."

Quinys Forgedawn

"Most of its good, but this…" Quin shook her head and flagged down another strong drink. She could feel more questions bubbling up and she wasn't quite sure she wanted to ask them of herself. "I thought he was gone, the end, whatever, but he's still out there. Every day, still out there."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn looks at her with concern, but tries to keep his eyes warm and caring. "I can imagine that was quite a shock, him showing up like that, out of the blue, ready to kill the entire party and run away with you. This was supposed to just be a quick escort mission, right? Not a kidnapping rescue, a town bounty hunt, a homicidal reunion. It's turning all kinds of things, and quickly."

Quinys Forgedawn

"And if you have faith in Edric's abilities, we're all going to be together for a while yet, so we just have to all get along somehow." Quin took a sip of the darker liquid this time, not downing it all at once this time, and truly savors the warmth. "He's teaching me magic, you know. Edric, not Adonis, I didn't even know he knew magic."

Erys Moongem

Erys comes back downstairs looking mildly calmer, at the very least not as tense, finally motioning to the barkeep that she'd like something. She took the same seat next to Dagger she'd vacated before. "I don't think Edric was working with him. I buy his story."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn is surprised that there was any suspicion of this kind at all. He doesn't fault people for protecting themselves, but Valorn can't put the events of the day together in a way that make Edric an accomplice. Edric was ready to kill the man, and you can feel the sorrow in his voice. Maybe I'm too trusting, Valorn thinks, putting a good deal of thought as he takes another light swig. "I certainly don't think Ed is working against us. That's a pretty serious suspicion!" Valorn takes his facial expression down a notch. "I'm glad you've come to that conclusion, though."

Quinys Forgedawn

"Does he even know who it was? I mean, Edric isn't Adonis's biggest fan even if he doesn't know much." Quin finished her liquor and sat the glass down heavily, pushing it away. This was a good spot for her to be, drunk enough to feel very little but not so much as to say too much. "Where is Edric?"

Erys Moongem

"Well, they fought, right? And if he didn't, I just told him." Erys took her first swig, like a dwarf, impolite, overhead, gulping, exhaling forcefully when she was finished and had returned the mug to the bar. "We had a conversation and it made him realize how much danger he put us all in. I think maybe Ona's reaction had him on the defensive so he hadn't realized yet. He's probably going to be up there a while. I'd appreciate it if… if we could talk, you, me, and Ona, before you go to him, if you'd like to." Erys wasn't the sort of person to be jealous, but this situation was increasingly concerning. If her read on what Adonis was to Dagger ended up being even close to right, Edric could easily take that place in her heart. And Erys wasn't convinced he wouldn't.

Quinys Forgedawn

"I mean, yeah, sure. Whatever it takes, I guess. I just don't know if I can provide satisfying answers, just the ones that I have." Quin finished her beer and rubbed her head, mussing her braid slightly as she thought about everything so far. "Is she going to try and stab me again? Or should I expect more spells cast on me tonight?"

Erys Moongem

Erys' expression narrowed with intensity, unusual for her. "If she does, I'll defend you just like earlier. She doesn't have the information I have, she didn't recognize the situation. She's never been that helpless in her life before. That doesn't justify her drawing steel on you, but know that I am personally guaranteeing your safety tonight." She let a beat pass, giving her just a little grin. "And no, Dagger, that isn't me hitting on you again. I mean it very seriously."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn takes it all in, and chuckles. "Are you saying your flirty behavior is, eh, not very serious?"

Erys Moongem

"Oh no, I'm very serious about that. Just… tonight, this is a higher priority."

Quinys Forgedawn

"I trust you, maybe more than I should." Quin fiddled with the locket in her pocket and thought about everything and nothing at once. "I should have eaten some of that cake."

Erys Moongem

"No, Dagger. No, you shouldn't have." Erys looks like she's about to cry, about to reach out and hold the poor girl… but then with a sniffle, looks over to Valorn. "But maybe we could go halvsies on something for her? It is her… birthday, after all. Surely they have some kind of…sweet." Erys wasn't usually going to taverns to sample their food and drink.

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn immediately takes the hint, gets up, and walks over to the barkeep. He can be seen asking, deliberating, and making a decision, and is soon handed a plate with some pastries on it. As he gets out the coin to pay for it, he gets out a couple extra coins, which he palms. He comes back to the table. "I hope you like scones, Quinys! It's all the dessert the cook is any good at makin'. I believe these are half blueberry, half raspberry." Valorn then holds out his right hand to Erys, puts two gold coins in her hand, and winks, not planning on letting her pay for their rooms alone.

Erys Moongem

Erys understands the gesture and places the coins in her purse.

Quinys Forgedawn

Quin takes a scone and bites into it, blinking back tears as she chewed. This was the most beautifully, heart breaking, confusing, important moment that she could remember in recent history and it wasn't fair that her throats was so choked from bile from him that she couldn't enjoy it. "Thank you, honestly."

Erys Moongem

Erys puts her hand on the bar in a gesture of comfort without contact, watching Dagger eat her pastries. "Happy birthday, Dagger. You're an incredible fighter, immensely resourceful, beautiful and…" A glance towards Valorn. "We've got you… take your time, we can head up whenever you're ready."

Valorn Aenethal

Valorn smiles and nods. "Absolutely. We've got you." Valorn grabs a scone and takes a bite, and swallows. "And y'know, these aren't half bad!"
